The Daily News, Letter to the Editor:
Christian Science isn’t faith healing
Your November 22nd front-page article, “Child deaths test faith healing exemption” was prompted by a tragedy that had nothing to do with Christian Science. Yet, somehow, Christian Science seemed to be the focus of much of the article.
Let’s be clear, Christian Science is not faith healing. Neither is it “a form of faith healing,” as the article asserts, that “is unique and different from the way it is practiced by some fundamentalists.” There is simply no connection between the two. In Christian Science, suffering and death are never “God’s will”. My family and I rely on Christian Science to safeguard our health, because we’ve found that it works. But I would never jeopardize my child’s well-being if I thought for a moment that Christian Science wasn’t being effective.
The Christian Science Church has never and will never intentionally advocate for laws that accommodate reckless behavior. The health and safety of children should always be paramount in any situation.
