The Seattle Times, Letter to the Editor:
“Bringing Christian Science care of children into a discussion on abortion is quite a stretch.
As a Christian Science parent, I love my children as much as any parent could. I know that all of my Christian Science friends equally love their children. Christian Science gave me an understanding of the loving nature of God and how to care for my children in the best way possible. I would never have made them the test of my faith in God, but found that my understanding of God led me to always see that they had the most effective care possible. Christian Science always proved sufficient in meeting their health-care needs.
Abortion is a means of purposefully removing an unwanted fetus. But when a child passes away in a hospital, we don’t say the parents didn’t love the child. Likewise, the Christian Science parent, using prayer for healing, does so believing it is the best care available.
Christian Science prayer is something more than belief that God will perform miracles. Christian Science has been a reliable and successful form of healing for countless individuals for more than a century.”
